Maca flour
Maca is cultivated in the Peruvian Andes at 4,000 m altitude and is a strong root that is normally consumed in tablets, as a food supplement and as sexual invigorating.
Target market:
According to ADEX , United States collects 38% of exports of flour and followed by Japan with 23%. Smaller amounts are carried to Germany , Austria , France. In total , 31 countries have received some shipping Peru . Surprises are Ireland and New Zealand. In 2007 samples were sent to these countries and have been exported this year for $ 6,000 and $ 5,000 respectively.
Export:
Maca flour was exported worth U.S. $ 848,243 between January and April 2008 , 36% more than the same period last year.
Potential:
Nearly 70 companies have seen the potential of this product. According to the Peruvian Institute of Natural Products, the country exports mainly maca flour. But it also sends the dry , gelatinized and tablet product. Flour can be consumed directly but uptake is low , so are more common tablets . Moreover, Peru and began exporting to China maca tablets .
