10:27 Lima, May 17. Studies carried out by specialists from Cayetano Heredia University (UPCH, by its initials in English) reveal that black maca improves memory and learning in humans and recommend its consumption by school students.
Dr. Gustavo Gonzales Rengifo, head of the Endocrinology and Reproduction laboratory, explained that this Andean crop acts on the hippocampus, a part of the brain where memory is located, improving its activity.
“Black maca improves memory skills, reduces the number of times the information has to be repeated in order to remember it, for example, it helps the learning and memory recovery process” he stated to the Andina agency.
Another benefit this plant shows is the energizing effect it produces in the person who consumes it. Dr. Gonzales Rengifo assures that black maca is five times more energizing than energy drinks, ging zeng and testosterone, because it delays the accumulation of lactic acid.
“Lactic acid generates muscle fatigue. By delaying its accumulation, the muscle has the opportunity to be active for a longer period of time”, he said.
The biologist recommends not to consume black maca as a powder or in its jelly form because it generates digestive problems, but to consume it as extract, boiled and strained or macerated.
What is important is the dose and frequency. It is my advice to take 20 grams of black maca once a day in the above mentioned forms”, he pointed out.
Dr. Gonzales Rengifo is a prominent professional from UPCH, nationally and internationally known for his contribution to the research of the benefits and properties of maca.
